Magic cherries can only get you so far. I wrote The Legend of the Cherry Prince as an original children’s picture book inspired by Traverse City, the National Cherry Festival, and the orchards that have shaped this corner of Northern Michigan for generations.
When a young boy unexpectedly becomes the Cherry Prince, he receives a set of magical cherries said to hold special powers. But when developers threaten the town’s cherry orchards, he discovers that protecting the place you love takes more than magic—it requires courage, cooperation, and someone willing to speak up.
This Story Has Roots. In 1974, I was the first-grade Cherry Prince for Long Lake Elementary School during Traverse City’s National Cherry Festival. I rode in three parades and grew up surrounded by the orchards and landscapes that inspired this tale decades later.
