Jean d’Ylen, Bière Allary & the Art of French Advertising

Created around 1925 by French poster artist Jean d’Ylen, this exuberant advertisement for Bière Allary uses exaggerated scale, saturated color and humor to turn a simple glass of beer into an unforgettable image. The towering figure and oversized beer reflect the bold visual language of French advertising during the Art Deco era.

D’Ylen worked in the tradition of the great French advertising poster artists of the early 20th century, creating colorful, theatrical images designed to command attention at a glance.

As a graphic designer and lover of vintage art, I’ve personally color-corrected and restored this historic design for reproduction, while preserving some of the original character and imperfections that give vintage advertising art its charm.
