National Parks WPA Poster – Vintage Bighorn Sheep Canvas Art

Wildlife takes center stage in this striking vintage National Parks poster from the WPA era. Two bighorn sheep stand high above a mountain lake, surrounded by bold peaks, water and sky—a beautifully graphic reminder of the wild places America’s national parks were created to protect.

I’ve carefully restored the historic design and reproduced it on gallery-wrapped stretched canvas, creating ready-to-hang wall art with bold color and a timeless conservation message.

Preserve Wild Life: Art With a Message. Created by artist J. Hirt through the WPA Federal Art Project around 1939, “The National Parks Preserve Wild Life” was designed for the National Park Service to promote America’s national parks and the wildlife they protect. Its dramatic bighorn sheep, simplified landscape and bold typography reflect the distinctive graphic style of New Deal-era poster design.

These posters have long appealed to me as a graphic designer and lover of vintage art. I personally color-correct and restore each design for reproduction while preserving some of the small imperfections and signs of age that give the original artwork its character.
