Leonetto Cappiello & a Very Clever Polar Bear. Created in 1929 for Swiss chocolatier Cailler, Cappiello’s Chocolat Frigor poster turns a simple chocolate advertisement into an unforgettable graphic idea. The name “Frigor” suggested cold, inspiring Cappiello to pair the chocolate with a polar bear—an unexpected image made memorable through bold color, scale and contrast.

Printed in Paris and written in French, the design belongs to the European advertising-poster tradition that made Cappiello one of the defining names in vintage poster art.

As a graphic designer and lover of vintage art, I’ve personally color-corrected and restored this historic design for reproduction while preserving some of the original character and imperfections that give vintage advertising art its charm.
