J. Spring, Cognac Sorin & a Toast to the Stars. Created around 1930 by J. Spring, also known as Joseph Stall, this French advertising poster transforms a cognac advertisement into a wonderfully mysterious nighttime scene. A Pierrot raises his glass toward a star-filled sky, using dramatic perspective, saturated color and theatrical whimsy to create an unforgettable image.

Printed in Paris during the Art Deco era, the poster reflects the bold, simplified visual language that made French advertising art of the period so distinctive.
